ICSEP is a research-intensive non-profit organisation. At ICSEP, we believe that sustainable development along the Belt and Road begins with understanding both the macro-level economic and political dynamics and the lived experiences of local people and places. Our approach brings together local civil society, anthropologists, human geographers, and ethnographic political scientists working at both local and global levels to explore how infrastructural, industrial and digital development affects the everyday lives of communities and what those communities truly need. We strive to promote social equity and participatory governance along the Belt and Road by sharing field-based research grounded in local knowledge, supporting community organizations, and facilitating dialogue among local communities, the private sector, and the state.
